The community centre at Thimmaiyanadoddi was conceived as a trust-building intervention and formed the first step in the larger housing initiative for the Iruliga community. Designed as a shared space for meetings, learning, and everyday activities, the centre established a social anchor within the settlement while demonstrating stabilised adobe construction in practice.
By functioning as a live prototype, the building allowed materials, construction techniques, and detailing to be tested before being scaled across the housing units. The community centre played a critical role in building confidence, participation, and collective ownership, enabling the transition from temporary shelters to permanent, dignified homes.
