NIVASA has partnered with the Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD), Government of Karnataka to offer design assistance for the revival of an 18 acre Institutional Campus in Bengaluru as a therapeutic environment for all its users. The campus houses government homes catering to residents with a variety of special needs for care and protection, including those with different psychiatric and neurodevelopmental needs.
The campus is re-designed following the principles of Salutogenic design. These promote a holistic design approach focussing on human health and wellbeing, connecting residents to their surroundings and allowing them to feel a sense of control over their environment. The design considers the full range of physical, social and psychological needs of the campus occupants, creating a home-like environment for care and rehabilitation.
Nivasa worked directly with residents, staff and experts to ensure the design process was participatory, user centric and scientific. The project would aim to be an example for similar institutes, with the possibility of the design guidelines being used across Karnataka.
