GRIHA is the necessary step in achieving our vision. Project GRIHA’s approach is to analyze the climate, culture, vernacular design, local material availability, current needs, and usage patterns of people in various zones of Karnataka. Using this, a design template and palette will be developed for a core house module that will provide for flexibility of growth, give people access to design, technology, technical know-how, construction materials, and empower them to build their own homes. The cost of each core house must be achievable within government allocated funds.
The thirty districts of Karnataka are categorized into five main zones according to climate and administration. At the end of each research, NIVASA will be able to have a design template of plans, elevations, details, views and scale models created for each house type proposed for the various zones. NIVASA will also help in building prototypes on a need basis across the districts.
Implement:
1 house prototype at Cherkady, Udupi District
2 Anganwadi prototypes at Haliyal and Dandeli, UK District
